Constructed out of natural basalt, the top and insides of this fountain have been highly polished to a mirror jet black finish, while the outside of the stone has been left in a natural state.
The gentle sound of water emanates as the water flows over the piece and splashes into the pool and stone below.
The pond is filled with both marginal water plants and lilies, with the clarity of the water maintained by a biological filter designed into the bottom of the pond. With the proper design, pond elements can be low maintenence, although never maintenance-free.
The visual effects created by the reflections of this natural stone fountain are ever-changing, depending on light and the seasonal changes in the surrounding landscape.
A unique challenge of this project was to design a water feature within a predetermined area, and recapture certain existing elements if possible.
A previous pond had been installed, but due to various reasons, had to be completely removed, and a new system was designed and installed within the confines of the space, which included an existing patio.
Certain existing elements were incorporated into the new water garden such as the stone bridge and a boulder that was encapsulated in the cement.
In addition the client requested that a sculptural element with year round beauty be incorporated within the new feature.
Made from natural stone, this mirror basalt fountain reflects the beauty surrounding it.
When viewed from this angle, the illusion of translucence created by the mirror finishes of this natural stone fountain is complete.
